The earthquake began here, in a small Chocó town most news coverage barely mentions. Valentina Jurado, who knew the town before the quake, started a campaign so that wouldn't mean it gets left without help.

San José del Palmar, in Chocó, is the epicenter of the August 10, 2026 earthquake. It's also one of the towns with the least media attention and the least aid infrastructure already in place among all the affected areas. Valentina Jurado, the campaign's organizer, had visited the town just three months before the quake.
The campaign, on Vaki, is raising funds to rebuild homes, community spaces, and support the town's families directly. The original goal was $9,630. Today it has raised more than $46,000 from over 1,800 donors, a sign that even though San José del Palmar doesn't always make headlines, it is on a lot of people's minds.
Being at the exact center of an earthquake doesn't always mean being at the center of attention. San José del Palmar has shown that: it's the point where everything started, and one of the last to be truly seen. Every contribution to this campaign helps change that, a little at a time.
